Linnea’s Lights candles combine natural soy wax, lead-free cotton wicks, and pure scents to create aromatic, clean-burning candles. The Fireside candle is a smoldering blend of tobacco scents, clove, pine and sensual woods. Double-wicked and hand-poured in small batches, this glass candle will provide more than 60 hours of illumination. These candles are available at Terrain. Every step of the process involves the use of human hands, and each candle is packaged and designed locally in Indiana with recycled or recyclable materials.
I also love this cocoa stick wreath from Terrain. This wreath is handmade using unusually textured natural elements. The intricate layers of cocoa sticks and fibers on this wreath make an earthy addition to a kitchen or hearth. Love it love it…I wonder if it smells like chocolate?

I’m having fun working on some patterns with my logo. Any ideas you’d like to share please do. What else should I put in my Porridge bowl? The possibilities are endless. I’ve been brainstorming on a few Christmas ornament designs. I have decided to join in the fun at Freshly Blended and signed up for her ornament swap. Maybe if I like what I come up with I’ll sell them right here on my Porridge site so you can all have one or ten?
Preschool field trip to VSA is always so much fun. Here is my son Elias putting the finishing touches on his caterpillar clay sculpture.
VSA Mission : is to provide access to lifelong learning and creative expression through the arts for people with disabilities in Indiana.
For thirty years, VSA arts of Indiana has led the movement to make the arts accessible to people with disabilities. VSA arts of Indiana (VSAI) offers a variety of opportunities for people with disabilities of all ages to engage the power of the arts as a means of education, creative self-expression, and personal and professional growth. As a result, VSAI promotes change in public perceptions and raises public awareness, emphasizing the abilities and accomplishments of people with disabilities; and advocates for increased accessibility and equity in providing arts experiences for all individuals.
Showing his messy hands after working on his painting at VSA. I can’t say enough great things about this organization. With the arts totally being dropped from hundreds of school systems around America, I love that there are still places kids can go to learn and enjoy art. Take advantage while art is still around, because I’m sure someday soon in the future kids won’t even know what a paint brush is.
Children love dressing up!
Villa Carton costumes add to the fun with their all-natural 100% cotton costumes that children can colour and customise, then pop on and play in. Perfect for make-believe games.
I know everyone has those novels out there that they wished they had read or wished they owned a beautiful hardcover version. Now is your chance to read and own those books that got away. To be honest…I have a lot of reading to do, because I really have never read any of these classic novels!!! I’m ashamed I admit, but reading has never been my thing. Being a graphic designer and artist I have spent most of my life in front of a canvas, sketchpad or computer spilling out visual stories. This is no excuse by any means, but since a wonderful designer like me has gone through all the effort to make these classic stories beautiful on the outside, I’m sure the stories must be as beautiful. Penguin classic novels feature gorgeous patterns stamped on linen cases, colored endpapers, and ribbon markers, these are rich and sumptuous volumes that continue what will be one of the most coveted sets of books ever produced. Okay okay, I think I read The Odyssey back in high school, that’s not too bad huh?
Clementine art is high quality art supplies for children. These supplies are all natural, certified non-toxic and environmentally friendly. The packaging is made of 100% post consumer recycled and reusable materials. How bout them clementines?
Straight from Sugarland Matilda Jane Clothing out of Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Love Love Love these clothes with a passion. I have a slight addiction to it actually, and wish I could afford each and every piece for my little girl Sofia Blue. I find myself often looking again and again at their site because the photography is just so simple, sweet and innocent. It makes me want to buy a better camera and shoot photos of my kids all day long.
The excerpt below is taken directly from their blog…and I love it and can’t be explained any better than this…
Who Doesn’t love a compliment?
It makes your day, all day. That is what I want Matilda Jane Clothing to do, make the girl smile from ear to ear. I want her to love what she is wearing and be proud of how she looks. I want Matilda Jane to showcase the sweetness of the child. I try to keep the silhouettes simple for that reason, it’s not about the fancy embroidery, it is about the darling girl wearing it. I want your little girl not to fight with you on what to wear, I want her to be comfortable and I want her to be happy! And that is it.
Beautiful paintings by Angela Mitchell of Mitchell and Dent, purveyors of paper ephemera of note. Mitchell and Dent also design letterpress artwork, greetings, custom stationery and invitations.
Great work from Emily Dumas for the Working Proof organization. As her print sells it will benefit Little Kids Rock.
Every child deserves music education.
When it comes to making sure every kid gets a first-rate education, music matters. Little Kids Rock believes that learning to play a musical instrument can be a transformative experience in students’ lives, with the power to inspire the creativity and confidence that are critical to success in school and beyond.
That’s why we’ve dedicated ourselves to bringing free musical instruments and music instruction to underserved schools across the country. Ultimately, our goal is to restore music to its rightful place in the academic lives of all kids in our public schools.
Teachers in the program use the unique Little Kids Rock methodology to teach students to play the music they love, including rock, blues, rap and hip-hop. Heavy emphasis is placed on composition, improvisation and recording, and kids regularly record their own music, create CDs — even make their own rock videos.
One of the reasons we’re successful is that schools can get the program up and running quickly and efficiently. We build on the teachers’ existing skills and give schools the flexibility to offer classes within the core curriculum or as after-school enrichment. Because all instruments, the curriculum and the teacher trainings are donated free of charge, kids everywhere can have a chance to learn, play and rock out!
